Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I was thinking about how to setup Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a character.

I decided the Monk class was probably the best character class to represent Buffy's martial arts training.

To represent the special powers and abilities of a Slayer, I thought the "Monster of Legend" template works well. +5 to AC, 1 special attack, 2 special qualities (fast healing 5, haste), saves +3, str +10, dex +6, con +10, int +2, wis +2, chr + 4, bonus feats: improved initiative, multiiattack. For the special attack ability, I thought Favored Enemy +4 Undead, +2 Evil Outsiders worked well.

The problem is Buffy was never so inept as to be "first level." She was bad-ass from the beginning. You might want to take a look in the Buffy RPG and see what sorts of game mechanics they're using there to represent Slayer abilities. Don't forget Fast Healing and Weapon Proficiencies: All. D&D vamps are much tougher than Buffy vamps, since "dusting" them only makes them retreat to their coffins until they heal. You might give your Slayer a "Final Death" ability or something that states if one of her attacks reduces an undead to 0 HP, they are instantly destroyed permenantly.

edit: Oops, you already got fast healing. Didn't see that!

PS: I'm a big Buffy fan. My wife and I are working our way through the whole series via Netflix DVD rentals. We're halfway through Season 2 and amazed at how many episodes we missed back when they aired.

In one of the early Polyhedron issues of Dungeon magazine, there was a D20 Modern campaign setting that was based on BtVS. The Slayer was handled as a D20 Modern Prestige Class.

You may want to check that out. Also, on the Sean K. Reynolds web-site, I believe he created his version of the BtVS Vampire.

I'm gonna have to say you're taking the wrong approach to this.
D&D is a system designed for fantasy medieval stuff.
Buffy that is not.

Buffy RPG from Eden Studios is a fabulous product. One of the best RPG purchases I've made in my 10 years playing tabletop games. It's easy, slick, handles dramatic action extremely well, has a very simple but perfect combat system, and so on and so on.

I'm a huge fan of what Eden Studios has done for that game, and if you want to play Buffy, I would recommend it above all else.
