Hi all, our DM has recently announced that we'll be taking the campaign into epic levels. I've never played epic rules before, and never suspected that I'd need to think about them.
My character is currently Rogue 3/Wizard 5/Maggerspell Mage 10. He's always had a bit of an identity problem - to start off with, we had no arcane caster or rogue in the campaign, and I intended to try and be both (I was new to 3.5 as well then). Then someone started playing a Rogue, so I switched to concentrating on Wizard. Then the Rogue left, and I was both again, and then a Sorcerer joined the party. We also suffer from a lot of variety on which players can make each session, and sometimes I'm secondary melee. So my character is far from optimised, and I've switched his principle focus several times, but he's still fun to play.
Now I have just two levels left to fill before epic rules come into play. I'm only at spell-casting level 14 (i.e. 7th level spells), but as I understand it extra Wizard or DSM levels taken after character level 20 will still increase my spells per day till I hit caster level 20. Is that correct?
However as a DSM I am also sometimes the party's secondary melee character, depending on who else turns up each week. And I'm wondering if I should grab as much BAB as I can before I hit epic progression rules. Rogue 4 gives +1 BAB and Uncanny Dodge, so is tempting. Wizard 6 gives +1 BAB as well as the usual increase in spell-casting.
I can't find any other Prestige Classes that really mesh very well thematically with the character. Unseen Seer would give +1d6 Sneak Attack, but I don't want the Divination focus that comes with later levels, and a 1 level dip into a PrC when I have no intention of taking more seems a bit cheesy. Arcane Trickster is a possibility, I guess, but so far I've been a TWF sneak-attacker, and AT seems more suited to ray sneak attacks.
Also, at level 21+, I can't decide whether to pile on PrC levels or just take more DSM levels and get the extra feats. Any thoughts on whether DSM would get 1 feat/3 levels, the same as Wizard, or 1 feat/4 levels, the same as a Rogue? Or has anyone seen an epic progression for DSM anywhere?
I've even got this half-formed idea of taking some Swordsage levels, to get Island of Blades (for easier Sneak Attacks), and some of the other ToB goodness. But these might well be wasted on a low(ish) BAB character.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice.
