I made a Raptoran Knight with Longspear. It was heinous. Reach, Flight, bulward of defense, it was pure silliness, if you can martial study thicket of blades, etc, from Bo9S, you're golden.

Go with a two-handed reach weapon and a buckler, taking Improved Buckler Defense (Complete Warrior?) for the best of both worlds. With the benefits of magical enhancements to the buckler, the Knight's shield-based abilities and the PHBII shield-specialisation feat tree, the extra protection from the buckler easily makes up for taking -1 to hit.

I guess i'll use a lance? with a shortsword for backup, plus the buckler, then get myself a mount for when the need arises, and a proper shield on the mount, cause while mounted i can use a shield and a lance right?

whats with the heavy and light lance pictures in the equipment section in the phb

but under weapons there is only one lance?

orcs do get the nice +4 str, but humans get that feat, which knights lack....

Maybe you could get the DM to let you use the Monkey Grip feat to wield a medium-sized reach weapon in one-hand.

I'll second the reach weapon tactic, and also pick up Mageslayer feat. If you can close into melee with any spellcaster, they will be screwed. They won't be able to cast defensively, they won't be able to 5' step and cast, they'll provoke if they try to cast, they'll provoke if they try to move away...

Reach weapon + Imp. Unarmed Strike = threaten everything out to 10'.

Oooh! Evil Knight! You'll want to multiclass a bit - 2 levels of Fighter for the feats, and 2-3 levels of Monk for the saves and abilities. How far are you going to take the class? Are you heading for Blackguard?


For stat arrangement, try Str 15 Int 11 Wis 9 Dex 13 Con 18 Cha 14. At 4th level you'll improve Str to 16.

If you go Dwarf instead of human you'll be Str 15 Int 11 Wis 9 Dex 13 Con 20 Cha 12.

At 3rd level, you'll be Ftr 2 / Kt 1 - BAB +3, HP 36 F/R/W 7/1/2. 4th level will see you Ftr 2 / Kt 2

At 8th level, you should consider being Ftr 2 / Kt 4 / Mk 2 for BAB +7/+2, HP 86 F/R/W 11/5/6. And in Mithril half-plate so you can still use the Monk's Evasion ability. I'd suggest levels 7 and 8 as your Monk levels so you don't lose that second attack.

If you don't go Prestige, Ftr 2 / Mk2 / Kt 16 is well nasty.

Mithril Half-plate is still medium armor. You'd need to go down to a mithril breastplate to get light stuff, which quite a bit of lost AC given the 13 Dex.
