Just starting to play in a game set in Freeport. I've decided that for something different I wanted to play a Hexblade. The light fighter/arcane spellcaster with an inherent selfish nature seems to fit in well in the setting.
His background story (short version) is basically that both him and his half brother (the rouge in the party) were born in Freeport to a mother who worked in a brothel along dreaming street. Needless to say they didn’t have a particularly happy childhood and my character Heran spent a great deal of time literally looking out for and protecting his younger brother. As they got a bit older they began to develop a little crime syndicate of 2. Heran still provided the muscle and planning while Hanz actually did most of the jobs taking advantage of his small stature and nimble fingers. Heran has basically come to the conclusion over the course of his life that pretty much the only people in the world he can really trust are himself and his younger brother. Anyone else is simply a means to improve their own lives even if it is at their expense. While they aren’t about to start robbing widows and orphans their outlook on life defiantly implies that the world owes them and they are prepared to collect.
In terms of party contribution I basically see him as a support fighter. We already have a half orc paladin and a half orc fighter so I see them engaging the largest threat in a group while I work to keep the mooks from either flanking them or reaching the spellcasters and party rouge.
Align: CN
Stats:
STR 14
DEX 14
CON 10
INT 14
WIS 8
CHA 16
Gear: Longsword Shortsword Chain Shirt assorted daggers +misc adventuring equipment mirror, rope ect.
Skills: (before ability adjustments) Bluff 2, Concentration 3, Diplomacy 3, Intimidate 4, Knowledge Arcania 1, Knowledge Freeport 2, Ride 1, Search 1, Spellcraft 1, Spot 1.
Feats:
I plan on eventually getting whirlwind attack and have therefore taken Dodge and Combat Expertise.
Anyhow I know this is rather long winded but any advice you folks who’ve happened to play a hexblade before let me know if I’m overlooking something important or if you figure there would be a more effective way to develop him.
