Building a Halfing Sorcerer/Rogue

Second the suggestion to go Rog/Wiz if you are not married to the Sorcerer idea.

I've found that outside of the "social" role, the Wizard class goes better with Rogue than Sorcerer does.

Thirded on the Rog/Wiz.
The other consideration is that a Rog/Wiz will get into ArT next level (and start the long, slow climb back up to power parity).
The Rog/Sor will have to wait another level.

Do you have access to PHB2 (some consider this core), if so maybe consider Beguiler which is semi-thiefly and semi-sorcerous while staying single classed. Arcane Trickster requires +2d6 sneak attack damage, but possibly the Beguiler's special magical attack (somewhat analogous to the sneak attack) might be houseruled as an equivalent ability (if it isn't already considered equivalent).

All in all, it works thematically for your concept - and might make for a stronger character overall (since you keep single classed until AT is taken). A few Houserule tweaks to the Arcane Trickster might be in order - but again, thematically Arcane Trickster is a natural for the Beguiler, even if the mechanics don't match quite right. It is a natural problem considering the AT was conceived ages before the Beguiler came about. If the Arcane Trickster was re-written today based on some of the new classes available, I am sure it would be a bit different to allow for these other tricky classes.

My group doesn't. Which is a decision I can understand and actually fully support.
Oh well. A shame really, as if there was ever a book that deserved 'core' status, I would nominate PHB2 for no other reason than the expanded feat selections (geared for higher level characters)... all the rest is bonus stuff.
