So, I'm preparing to shift my home game over to the Tael'Dorei campaign setting, and one of the first hooks their going to run into is the Wayward Bloodline. For those of you who don't know, in the Tael'Dorei campaign guide, Mercer and Green Ronin provided various story hooks for DMs to build adventures off of. Wayward Bloodline has the party encountering Zuundak, the son of Tz'Jarr, emperor of the Iron Authority (a hobgoblin nation). Zuundak had recently learned that the world outside of the Iron Empire was gentler, and is caught by the party trying to leave, and they have to decide what to do with him.
My portrayal of Zuundak is a shy, somewhat guarded kid eager to explore the world, but also wants to protect his friends. I'm planning on making him a fighter, and I've narrowed down the subclass choice to Cavalier and Banneret. He's of noble birth, and I didn't just want him to be a Battlemaster, and I thought these two fit pretty well. Cannonically, Zuundak was being groomed to be a general by his father, and for a command like officer, I think Banneret would work. But Cavalier also kind of has the Noble birth thing going, and a lot of the abilities don't even require to be on a mount, and it seems to be a more protective subclass as well, drawing a lot of stuff towards them and granting defensive buffs to the rest of the party. What do you think I should choose?
