Bulezau Errata

I'm looking at the bulezau from the Fiendish Codex I and I noticed a lot of errors. Can anyone confirm this for me? The attack bonuses simply seem wrong. Here is how I think they should look:

Melee* Huge +1 ranseur +11/+6 (3d6+22/19-20/x3) and tail +7 (1d8+9)
Melee* gore +9 (2d6+12) and 2 claws +7 (1d6+9) and tail +7 (1d8+9)
* Attacks include the Power Attack feat

All of this is assuming the value for Power Attack is 6.

Additionally, if the powerful charge is supposed to work like the minotaur's, then the bonus and damage should be +9 and 4d6+9.

That sure does seem like a lot of typos.

Yes, there are errors in the bulezau statblock.

To make it simple (not including any power attack), the attack bonus for a regular bulezau should be:

+1 Ranseur +17+12 (-1 size +1 focus +1 weapon +10 bab +6 str). 3d6+10. and tail +13 (-1 size -2 secondary weapon + 10 bab +6 str). 1d8+3.

A powerful charge would be: Gore +17 (-1 size +10 bab +6 str +2 charge) 4d6+9. Notice in this case the Gore becomes its primary attack and deals 1 1/2 damage.

Personally, I'd switch out the ranseur and weapon focus (ranseur) for a Huge Greataxe or Huge Halberd. Reach weapons for large creatures just sucks after they close in on you. I would also not power attack for so much, just to get in that secondary attack.

Overall the Bulezau is an okay demon. They're good bruisers (although nowhere near the malebranche), with a bonus of see invisible. They may be able to do some interesting tactics with Solid Fog, although I'd have to use one to see if the spell actually benefits them.

Yes, the bulezau needs a little fix.

By my calculations (including PA [-5, as usual for WotC]), the bulezau's attack stats should be as follows:
Melee Huge +1 ranseur +12/+7 (3d6+20/19-20/x3) and tail +8 (1d8+8) or
Melee gore +10 (2d6+11) and 2 claws +8 (1d6+8) and tail +8 (1d8+8)

Melee: Huge +1 ranseur +12/+7 [-1 size, +10 BAB, +6 Str, +1 WF, +1 magic, -5 PA]
Damage: 3d6 +20 [+6 Str*1,5 = 9, +1 magic, +5 PA*2 = 10]
Melee: Gore +10 [-1 size, +10 BAB, +6 Str, -5 PA]
Damage: 2d6+11 [+6 Str*1 = 6, +5 PA*1 = 5]
Melee: Claw +8 [-1 size, +10 BAB, +6 Str, -2 Multiattack, -5 PA]
Damage: 1d6+8 [+6 Str*0,5 = 3, +5 PA*1 = 5]
Melee: Tail +8 [-1 size, +10 BAB, +6 Str, -2 Multiattack, -5 PA]
Damage: 1d8+8 [+6 Str*0,5 = 3, +5 PA*1 = 5]

Powerful Charge: +19 melee [-1 size, +10 BAB, +6 Str, +2 charge, +2 extra bonus due to Powerful Charge]
Damage: 4d6+9 [+6 Str*1,5 = 9]

I never thought about Powerful Charge adding an additional +2 to the charge attack, but the way it's worded, this may be the case. Cool.
