I'm not sure why metal minis are superior. At least, I don't think they are. I'm not a wargamer, so plastic is more convenient. The collectible/random nature of the current minis is something I don't really like, but apparently a lot of people do. Tough to argue with that.

I'd like to see them sell the current random packs, as well as specific packs whose contents you know ahead of time.

Then we'd see which sells better...

Yeah, because we all know it's impossible to use the D&D minis alongside your counters and metal figs.
Sure, it's possible-- it's possible to use rocks and sticks if you want to. It's just not good. The new minis system is inconvenient and wasteful.

Individual minis are easy. When I want a troll, I go out and buy a troll. I don't have to buy a stack of sealed boxes and wind up with 5 orcs, 8 goblins, a passel of kobolds, and a matched dozen of Tordek. If I'm playing in a high-level campaign that doesn't use the orcs or goblins, I'm stuck with pile of useless figures, since no one wants to buy the commons. (Ask a Magic player how easy it would be to trade or sell his plain lands. You'll be lucky if he doesn't laugh in your face.)

I always thought they where free..?

New line is a waste of your money and junk.

Oh and for why metal is better, it's mostly a weight issue for war gamers, bump the table and your miniatures don't spill. Bump table of plastic and theirs a god chance their going to tip over like dominos.
