I agree Houston is built atop a swamp, thats why its so freaking humid all the time. Humidity is not that big of a problem, though it is getting up in the high 90's low 100's right now.

It aint know desert though.....;), we at least got a river/lake and forest.

dagger: the weather is actually extremely unpredictable, I've seen everything from blistering hot to chilly with rain and high winds. Each year I've been has had its own character for the weather (last year was The Dusty Year.)

Shard O'Glass: I take it you've been there! I totally agree with you in one respect: come with an escape hatch, i.e. don't rely on others for transportation if you can help it. Some people, true enough, don't enjoy the scene. It's too weird for some people, too social for some others, but you don't have to be a freak or hippy or gay or whatever to enjoy it. I've never been with anyone who pressured me to do anything, and I don't think I've really seen much of that out there, but I'm sure it happens. I find that I tend to leave my people behind a lot and go off on my own. One thing I really recommend against is "pairing up" with a buddy to "take care of you" because sooner or later you'll want to do different things, and a lot of my biggest fun times have been wandering around on my own and meeting new people while the things that chafe involve waiting for someone to get all gussied up.

I really think there's something for just about everyone there, but the key is to look for what you want, not to do what others want you to.

Anyone who's interested, it's too late to get in cheap, but you can find out lotsa details at their web site (www.burningman.org). If anyone does end up going, try to let me know so we can meet and stuff!

Tallyho,

I heard about Burning Man a few years ago. I did some research and asked a few people who have been there (or knew others that went) for their thoughts on it.

Admittedly, certain aspects of the festival sound interesting, but the sex and the numerous freaks wacked out on all sorts of drugs and alcohol will likely keep from ever attending in my lifetime. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way...

Last Call!

Okay, last call... I'm leaving tonight... anyone else gonna be there?

If you run into Reverend Jimmy that's me! Listen for the "broadcast confessions" over the megaphone- that's me. I'd love to hook up with any ENWorlders that happen to be there. I'll be at the Man at dusk a couple of times to look for my peeps, I'm usually wearing a black cloak with a red interior, and often a hat.
