dagger: the weather is actually extremely unpredictable, I've seen everything from blistering hot to chilly with rain and high winds. Each year I've been has had its own character for the weather (last year was The Dusty Year.)
Shard O'Glass: I take it you've been there! I totally agree with you in one respect: come with an escape hatch, i.e. don't rely on others for transportation if you can help it. Some people, true enough, don't enjoy the scene. It's too weird for some people, too social for some others, but you don't have to be a freak or hippy or gay or whatever to enjoy it. I've never been with anyone who pressured me to do anything, and I don't think I've really seen much of that out there, but I'm sure it happens. I find that I tend to leave my people behind a lot and go off on my own. One thing I really recommend against is "pairing up" with a buddy to "take care of you" because sooner or later you'll want to do different things, and a lot of my biggest fun times have been wandering around on my own and meeting new people while the things that chafe involve waiting for someone to get all gussied up.
I really think there's something for just about everyone there, but the key is to look for what you want, not to do what others want you to.
Anyone who's interested, it's too late to get in cheap, but you can find out lotsa details at their web site (
