Buy.com 10% cheaper than Amazon!

I seem to recall a fair number of threads where people voiced some outrage at buy.com :(

Well, for me, I've had some issues, but they've always worked out. For example, I ordered Eats, Shoots, and Leaves, with the Warhammer Bestiary. The way they packed it, the smaller Eats, Shoots, and Leaves book in essence cut the Warhammer book in half. Mailed back the Bestiary book and a few weeks latter got a brand new one. With the coupon added for the original site shopping, I got the two books for less than the price of the Bestiary with free shipping and no tax.

Buy.com can be good and can be frustrating. But I've never had a serious problem with them. Their only real downfall is they have less selection than Amazon.

I do like to hear when a company has excellent customer service but, at the same time, I hate to hear it...too often. ;)

They have a lot of wrong desciptions, they have the 3.0 Psionics Handbook listed as a Miniatures book with the prototype cover shown for example.

I'll stick with my Amazon Prime free 2 day shipping and the extra discount from the Gold Box specials. I allready have half of the upcoming D&D books on preorder.

I'd rather spent the extra percent, the quality is amazing at amazon.com

Until quite recently I had a similair opinion.

But then I order the M&M Gadget book...

On March 17th, 2005. Amazon delayed the shipping date four times. Until it was to be shipped in August. Then they canceled my order and told me the item could not be acquired by Amazon. I waited FIVE months to be told that they didn't have the item in stock. Yet the day that they canceled my order the book was still listed on their site and had a 3 - 5 day shipping estimate.

I am not happy with Amazon.

Buy.com never gave me any problems.

Lets not talk about B&N.com though...

As far as pre-ordering something, I've found Amazon.com stupid. I've had to expalin to them that I've seen the book in stores tnat that it's been in many stores and that no one was breaking the shipping date. And this happens not only on D&D books, but on manga too. I finally gave up preordering Berserk and a few others and just buy 'em at the local shop when they get in. The weeks of waiting for them to wake up are too annoying.

Haven't pre-ordered at Buy.com though, so I can't compare experiences.

I "pre-ordered" Shadowrun 4 a few weeks ago. When I placed the order, I was under the impression that the release was only a couple weeks away, but they're showing my delivery date as being Nov. 7!

Granted, it may end coming sooner than that, AND I'm not sure what's holding up FanPro's release (if they were selling copies at GenCon, why does it take more than another month to get it onto dealer shelves?), but November still sounded pretty ridiculous.

I have been very happy with Amazon's customer service, and delivery speed, but I know never to pre-order from them.

In fact, I think it is faster to just check daily until a product is available and order it then. But I have no idea why.
