C is for a lot less cookies

What I think is odd is the lack of metion that he has done this before.
He became Carrot Monster for a while, at least I think he did.

In the mid nineties?

Steven Colbert Called It...

From a couple of years back (at least 2 years), Steven Colbert did a piece on Cookie Monster fattening up kids... let me see if I can find the link....

Here it is:

http://www.comedycentral.com/mp/browseresults.jhtml?s=ds

You'll need Realplayer* to view it, but definately worth checking out :)

*I think you can still get the spyware/adware-free version from the BBC site.

Edit: Go to this page and search (CTRL-F) for Cookie, should be the second one.

Edit 2: It's from the Daily Show, so its funny!

I'll agree up to a certain point that yes it will get inside their heads but I'll bet you 10,000 dollars on what a 4 year old will pick without parental intervention if you set a bowl of healthy food next to a plate of rice crispy cookies. ;)

Edit: I know what I would have picked, hell I know what I'd still pick. :D

With my kids it would depend upon what the "healthy" food is. Put a plate of rice crispy treats next to a bowl of grapes, the grapes wiill probably be gone first. Put it next to broccoli, my daughter will take the treats. My son may actually choose the broccoli - it depends upon the day.

Last night my kids each got a cookie after eating a good dinner. My son ate half of his and then told me he was done and I could eat the rest.

I don't see why they had to change his character to make the point. Why not keep him the same and just have other more level-headed characters calm him down and explain why he should control himself more... even though he never does. That would be fun, cool and remain true to the character. I don't know about him becoming a spokesman for healthy eating.

I agree. I always thought the point of Cookie Monster was that he did make bad choices. I mean he used to go crazy and eat everything, including things that are clearly not food like plates and the letter C. Growing up, I never wanted to model myself after him; I thought he was the one not to be like. He is a Monster after all.

Indeed. And to me, he always seemed a bit mentally challenged compared to the other monsters.

Look folks, the bottom line is this:

Until they install a throat on that bastard, he's really just the poster boy for bulimia. We've all seen that he isn't really eating the cookies but that they're just coming right back out of his mouth in little pieces.

You think the kids aren't seeing the same thing?

No wonder they've all got eating disorders these days!

Don't have kids so maybe I'm missing the point here but this really seems like the stupidest thing I've read all week.. (of course the week is young but I think we have a winner already.)

If you can't help but get snarky about debating the PC of Cookie Monster, I think you deserve a time out watching Mr. Rogers and contemplating what it means to be a good cyber neighbor ;)

Torm and Rel, your posts made me laugh!
