If you want something scary and creepy. Play the second Silent Hill game, it's available for the X-Box. A PS1 is worth picking up just to be able to play the original Silent Hill. Which is hands down the scariest, creepiest and most disturbing game or movie I've ever seen.

While I was really looking forward to this game, the shaky history of its development has my expectations very low.

This was a moddable PC game that turned into an unmoddable shooter style console game with a relatively retricted world scope.

I would love to be wrong about this; but everything I have read about this long overdue game has me very skeptical.

It's not the first HPL/CoC game, though.

Infogrames, about 15 years ago, got the Call of Cthulhu license. They were originally going to use it for "Alone in the Dark", but while that was still based on HPL (and said so), they instead used the license in an adventure game, Shadow of the Comet. And a followup which I never played.

AITD was sorta scary for it's day (and was basically the first survival horror video game). Shadow of the Comet was more interesting than scary.

Anyway, IMHO, the scariest games are probably the 2 Fatal Frame games (from Tecmo. for Xbox or PS2).
