Interesting. I would still be playing it regularly if there were some quality of life improvements, some bug fixes, and maybe some other tweeks.Civ3 is more or less contemporary with SMAC. I very rarely play that now.
Played SMAC a week or 3 ago.
Civ 3 was really the last classic civ if you liked that type.
