I just got Civ VI on my phone because it was free with my Prime account or something. Anyway, I will play with it and report back. Civ IV is my first, my last, my everything, so we shall see how this compares. I don't like its chances.

Well, you've already discovered the one thing Civ VI definitively has over its predecessors: you can play it on the go. If you compare it to Civ IV one-to-one you'll walk away disheartened, but if you have that itch for "one... more... turn...", and if you're a Civ fan you absolutely do, it's nice to have a near representative experience that you can take with you wherever.

e: That said, my drug of choice is my Switch Lite, which still took some getting used to; I'm struggling to imagine the UI for a phone screen.

I understand that everyone has their own preferences, but Civ 2 has 'The Eternal War' that made some pretty impressive news about a decade ago. Sid Meier has even commented on this. The save game is available at one of the links for those that would like to see for themselves. Several references:

For what it's worth, I just started another CIV 2 playthru for giggles inspired by this thread. May Fergus Gunderscroat the Viking unite the world under his thunderous monster paw!

Maybe one day I'll try my own hand at resolving the Eternal War.
