Why is it that movies from the 1960's-1970's are all so slow paced?

I am not film scholar, but I think everything from expectations of the audiences were different, to editing techniques. Personally I like the pace of 60s and 70s movies

Yeah, I think it was a matter of shifting artistic tastes and experimentation.

It also helped that Hollywood had more money laundering and fewer MBAs focused on making everything as mass-market profitable as possible.

The studio system was also ending right around that time too.

As pointed out, French New Wave is partly responsible.

But in 'Murkiuh, it really was MTV. Yeah. There was a sudden need for lots of videos, and they were made by young up-and-coming directors who were influenced by the French New Wave, and began incorporating much faster edits and quick cuts.

Basically, MTV taught us a fasted video vocabulary that spread and is now the dominant form.

Hall will always be the ultimate evil computer. I showed my wife 2001 for the first time and was worried she would find it dull, since it isn't exactly done in the style that most modern movies are. But she loved it

Literally one of my favorite movies of all time, but I totally get people not liking it or even can't stand it. I find the pacing and artistry of it mesmerizing.
