Greetings all!
In an effort to vitalise the city of Kalpesh, the primary setting for my main Selan campaign arc, I have decided to add in a number of competing factions and interest groups.
The main power of the city is the Argent Throne, a council in control of the various merchant cartels of Kalpesh since it unofficially split from the main kingdom of Selan. While the Imperial court ostensibly still has power, and Imperial Sabers (Knights of the realm) can be seen, they don't have any true power. The Argent Throne rules through strong political power mostly, but they have bribed many Sabers to their cause as well as their own military forces. The Argent Throne is in essence a glorified gang, grown wealthy from their exclusive trade with the Asturian foreigners and the mysterious Sea Traders.
Not everyone is happy about this, of course. There are numerous small groups of revolutionaries and Imperial loyalists in Kalpesh. I'm looking for some interesting ideas on the nature of some of these groups, and important members and thought I could probe the minds of the ENWorld Collective.
I'm looking for:-
1) Interesting names for revolutionary groups?
2) Important NPCs, or colourful revolutionary characters?
3) Foils for the revolutionaries (eg corrupt guardsmen, informants and moles and such).
Important notes:
>It's a SE Asian game, and I've gone for largely psuedo-Indian names with some arabic influences from the expanding influence of the Asturians (who I may rename too).
>Druids will not be present in this setting, and Clerics are restricted to Asturians (heavily altered).
>Sorcerers and Wizards were replaced with the Sha'ir (but using the Wu Jen spell list). Their presence is theoretically unacceptable according to the state (imported) religion, but largely tolerated.
>Barbarians (renamed Berserkers) together with Hexblades are two parts of a traditional (and out of style) lifestyle uncommon to the region.
>No need for stats or anything, just outlines and personality types and maybe a good hook or two.
