Callled Shot rules in 'Core' D&D?

An easy way to put them back is:

Take -4 to hit and descibe the effect you want. If the attack hits and the damage is enough to reduce that victim to 0 or fewer HP, the desired effect occurs.

This is my rule, minus the -4 to hit. i think its called 'Describing/Role Playing a battle.' Or something crazy and asinine like that.

Precisely what I was talking about.

If all you want is description, you don't need rules for called shots, because it has no game effect. Presumably if you're asking for rules for called shots, you want them to have an in-game effect (such as, injury to the leg reduces speed, injury to face blinds, etc.)

Either way is fine by me.

The more these sorts of questions come up, though, the more I look longingly at my GURPS books.... ;)

Wow. No need to resort to rudeness over something as simple as this. I thought they cleaned up this forum.

As for everyone else - thank you for you're help. It was the 3.0 DMG I was thinking of (amazing how some stuff just sticks in my head - I haven't read that in 4 years but i could almost recite it!).
