calls to prayer...

Voadam said:

What exactly do you mean by that term in christian terms?

Is it a request for prayers for specific others who are hurt or whatnot?

did you read the post?

i meant what i said, i wonder how folks who are anti-d+d would feel knowing about the calls to prayer you frequently see on this sight....and i didn't mean it in any christian term, i meant it in a more open minded "all religions included" way

Me-

Not quite the son of a preacher. My mom was the christian education director of the local church. My house- that's where the bible studies were. And to think, Pat Robertson's family went to my church. Hey! Maybe I should introduce gaming to some of his grand kids. I wonder what they would think.

Alsih2o,

Yes I read your post,

The only way I have heard the term "call to prayer" used before is in relation to the Muslim faith. Five times a day the calls go out, and every muslim kneels towards Mecca and prays. Everybody around the world. The call to prayer is sent out over loudspeakers in muslim countries from mosque towers so that people know it is the right time to pray. Seeing thousands stop activity to pray together is a neat concept for working into a game.

When you say "the calls to prayer that get posted here," I don't know what you mean, so I was asking you to define the term. I understood your post (how do anti-D&Ders feel about the religious on here), but not the general term you used in it, whether it is a Christian term or not.

"Call to prayer" is often used in relation to Islam, yes. Or, really, any religion where prayer times are supposed to be organized.

The phenomenon referenced in this thread, I'd call that a "call for prayer".

It's a somewhat minor semantic distinction, perhaps, but what's civilization but the organized procedure of quibbling over details?

;)

Skarp,

Right, I'm just trying to figure out what the detail is here. Is he referring to people asking others on here to pray for somebody because they are sick or had a tragedy, or is it something else? If it is asking for prayers, then I don't think I have seen that here. I have seen many people say they will pray for others when they here about something bad happen to them, but I do not recall hearing anybody ask for prayers.

Also other religions may have a specific time to worship, but I have not heard the term call to prayer used for any other religion besides islam.

i had just heard the term from my very baptist family, and assumed it was common, whenever someone has any level of tragedy i get a "call to prayer" from my aunt via e-mail..i didn't see it as belonging to any group, my apologies if my ignorance led to you being misled.

"If you pray, please pray for my brother. Or if not, then at least raise a glass to Bjorn. He was a great kid, and I miss him terribly."

this is i believe the most recent one, by balsamic dragon..and i am sure i have seen others..:)

again, my apologies if i used a term some other religion uses, but it wasn't a "term" when i used it, it was just a use of words(does that make ANY sense?)

it was shorter than typing "what about all those people who discuss things and people here pray for them" and i am an ubntalented and lazy typist :p

"Any prayers you can offer for my family and I would be greatly appreciated."

and here is another from jeremy...

anyway, it was meant as a unifier, and as some humor, but it obviously didn't work :(
