Campaign flavor

As i have been running/playing a lot of Runequest and just recently started playing D&D, my games tend to feature a lot of emphesis on religion confrontations. My D&D campaign incorporates a lot of elements of the flavor of Runequest.

Is this just my game or do other GMs use styles from other games/worlds in their games?

Actually, my game tends towards Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets the Forgotten Realms. Most of the time, as I'm reading a room description or the villian begins his monologue, the players are sitting back, working puns and wisecracks at a furious rate. Then they asked me to reread because they didn't hear what I was saying!

It tends to be frustrating at times, but there are a lot of times I had to stop because I was laughing so hard! :)

My campaign tends to taste a bit nutty. There is an overwhleming essence of Tolkien, a hint of Monty Python, Star Wars to taste, and fairly recently I've begun to add in some Hamlet at the end.

It started off as the "War to end all wars", followed by a bit soul-searching by party members. Currently the party is on a quest to retrieve the 4 pieces of the Holy Amulet of Pelor. To add to deed, Pelor has sent an Aasimar Paladin to oversee the recovery of the missing pieces. It's been quite interesting to see the interaction of the NG Cleric of Pelor vs. the goody-goody paladin.

I think we're successfully pointing out the differences between your "orthodox" and "reformed" followers of the Temple of Pelor. :)

I try to create various factions with goals that sometimes are in conflict and sometimes work together. So I guess my influence is Paranoia.

PS Runequest rocks.

My campaign's pretty Buffy-like, too, but more in the emotional chaos kind of way. Everybody's always angry with everybody, there's broken hearts and grim vengeance seeking and unstable relationships all over the place. It's hilarious.

The game I'm currently playing in is quite obviously inspired by the Alien series. Lots of bug creatures and Geiger-esque architecture.

When I Dm I draw from many sources. I believe it was Mark Twain (though I could be wrong) who said that writing is the art of taking something someone else has said and making it sound like you thought of it. (to paraphrase).

Thaumaturge.

I am not playing in your game dude :)

BTW Runequest does rock

My players call my campaign the Final Vision of the Record of Vinya.

It is a mix of Grimms Fairy Tales, Vision of Escaflowne, Record Of Lodoss War, Final Fantasy, Conan, American Folk Tales, Tolkien, Wuxia Films and old Nintendo Games seasoned with an Irish Ren Faire and Urban Fantasy/Mercedes Lackey Flair.

Funny enough the Escaflowne, Final Fantasy and Lodoss War are resemblences my players noticed.
When the game started I had never seen any of those things!
