Campaign Suite Player's Edition

Twin Rose

First Post
By popular demand, the maker's of Campaign Suite; Twin Rose Software, have created an all new Player's Only version of our Campaign Suite RPG Management software. This version lets you use all existing config files, such as those that can be downloaded or created by your Game Masters. For those who just wish to create characters in your worlds, and let the Game Master handle the rest, you can now do so without spending the full price on Campaign Suite.

The Player's Edition will be available at the introductory price of $9.95, and is fully compatible with all existing Campaign Suite data files.

Enjoy your gaming!

This is a great idea! I went to your web site to try to download it to see what you have in it and it is still listed as an upcoming product with no links. A little help?

There is no excuse for the miscommunication involved in our release - and it's one that I will take to my web designer. Essentially, the Player's Edition of Campaign Suite lets the Game Master control his game, while his players still play by his rules. We have complete class and race editors, and with our system of "Custom points" most anything can be done. The point is, that the data files offered with the full version of CS will continue to become the mainstay, so long as they are designed responsibly.

Great! Something like this has been needed all along (and I've been trying to argue for it since Master Tools was first announced). Since I haven't looked into your software I'll throw out a question blindly... Does it allow the DM to create custom "stores" where the players can "visit" to buy & sell their stuff off-line?

I'm afraid not. The product is designed as a 'prep tool' and not as a in-game use tool. This includes, at least for the time being (sinister grin), online play. However, we believe that giving the DM's control of the game, while letting the players have access to the files created, is very important.

Mac?

Mac? Mac, Mac, Mac, Mac? Mac, Mac? Mac?

(I think what he's trying to say, is when will the Mac version be available?)

We're working on it, the tools to make it happen just aren't as easy to run and test and make work as the standard compiler. Soon, I hope, though :)

Well... it seems to me to qualify as a 'prep tool' too, as I have my players roll up & equip their characters originally without my direct help. It'd be nice to be able to automatically tell them what is and isn't available to them where they're starting out. (Of course, if you can do it at prep time then it would seem to be usable later as a maintenance tool, too. :) )

But I'm sure you've got your hands full with plenty of other things for now. I just wanted to ask about/for it.

I think Chris missed what you were asking, Davin. I'll take a stab at it.

CampaignSuite has "Gear" and "Magic Item" tables. You could restrict those items to what you wanted available to the players to get what you want. There's no way to do a "Store A has X, Y, Z; While store B has C, D, E" though.

The drawback would be that you'd have to delete all of the equipment and magic items you didn't want them to have. If you wanted to build an NPC with an unavailable item, you'd be a little stuck. You'd have to create the item and not give that new campaign file to the players, or have 2 campaign files, or yuck.

Chris, a suggesstion for this new version: Include a "Show to PC" checkbox on the Gear and Equipment tab. The DM can then restrict what items the players see in their version. Actually, this should probably be on everything in the campaign (More examples: In Deities, I might want an evil deity the players don't know about, in Campaign/Notes I might want some info for the players on world but other notes just for the DM, etc.)
