Can a Cohort Take the Leadership Feat

I seem to recall a rule that a cohort cannot take the Leadership feat (so that a PC cannot get a cohort of a cohort).

However, I cannot find that rule. Does the rule exist?

Quite the opposite, actually. A cohort can take Leadership, and doing so is cited as a good way to recreate tiered organizations.

That being said, it would be well within a DMs perview to say that, no don't do that in my game, it can get out of control, or that even were that to take place the second-tier cohorts are NPCs and under the DMs control, not the player's.

A cohort can take any feat that other characters can take. Note that the cohort's followers are not loyal to the PC and won't necessarily even accept orders from him.

Agree with the other 2 posters.

IMHO it also possible that this is one area that the PC's Cohort may not follow the PC on because of the far greater likelyhood of a 2nd-tier cohort being killed in combat.

Also, you get diminishing returns. Each tier is a minimum of -2 level, and your second lowest level lackey in the chain has to be at least 6th level.

Not as much diminishing returns as just having one cohort and much lower level followers.
