Can anyone recommend a Sci-Fi/Future game?

As there are so many different settings and systems, a lot depends on what sort of sci-fi/space opera you'd like to run. The d20 Starwars game isn't too bad, and the new version of the system might be even better (especially for those coming in fresh). Some of my other favorites are (the original) Fading Suns and GURPS Transhuman Space as I put flavor over rules (because I'll end up changing the rules regardless :) ). You might also consider Darwin's World for a good sci-fi change of pace (it being post-apacolyptic rather than space opera).

And honestly, there's nothing wrong with pulling out the old Star Frontiers game. Many of the old rule systems are just fine.

My personal favorite is SpaceMaster by ICE... both the rules and setting. The original not the Privateers edition. Outstanding space opera feel with more than just a casual nod towards Dune and Star Wars.

But if you don't want to play SpaceMaster or are looking for something a little newer ... I loudly add my voice to those who have already suggested Dawning Star. Great setting, fantastic supplements and really good support. I've played it using a definately "Firefly / Serenity" flavor and it worked out wonderfully.

Getting in to Gamma World, myself - kind of a nostalgia trip for the 80s version, but the d20 version is so far pretty neat. Not quite as cartoony as the original, but fun. If you're into postapocalyptic stuff, it's worth checking out - can even get some of the stuff through the enworld shop, I believe...

Space Master by ICE was one of my favorites for years.
Now I run D20 Future and pull in all KINDS of sources and just toss proprietary notions out the window.
As an example... I had a pirate group of Klingons piloting old Tie Fighters and a YT-1300, with a couple of Cardassian and Kilrathi crewmen thrown in for variety.
So far, my players have encountered (in the D20 Future game):
Predators
Klingons
Zerg
Kilrathi
Cardassians
Klendathu Arachnids
Interdimensional Fomorians
Ogres
Elves
Dwarves
Ng-Kher-Arla (bonus points to whomever can name that source without resorting to a search engine)
Space bound pot-heads (they're currently in the midst of delivering bales of "baled organic material" to New Amsterdam... and yes... I know that was the original name of New York, but now it's not, and it fits the theme of the place I needed.
And Star Patrol (Star Frontiers) has recently approached them regarding deputization.
This is all set in a backdrop of what amounts to Space Master political boundaries.
If it's Sci-Fi, it's possible game fodder for my D20 Future game.

So, yeah... I say D20 Modern, D20 Future, D20 Apocalypse, Darwin's World 2, and anything you want to use as source material.

It is indeed from a Video Game... I'll even give the decade...
It was a game for the PC in the late 1980s.
And it perseveres as one of my favorite PC video games of all time, actually.

So... now I'm considering a way to work in more Sci-Fi elements.
Goa'Uld, Jaffa, Cylons (old or new... maybe both... hm.. factions in a civil war, maybe...)
