Can clerics collect x.p. as part of worship?

Because giving 10% of your XP is rather expensive?

 ...has tithing ever been necessarily 10%? That's a pretty literal assumption...as a texture issue for my campaign, things like that can be remarkably flexible - how generous a Cleric (or general worshipper) is in tithing develops a track record that can have benefits or repercussions on a case by case basis.
In this sort of hypothetical situation, I'd be leaning towards an entirely voluntary
"cost".

There's some great responses here. Thanks for the input.

Pyrex, 1 xp/level sounds just about what I was looking for.

That being said, how noticeable would the loss of xp be? And how often would the "thithe" be due?

Hrrmmm, new thought: What of a priest who used the xp to "boost" his own level? For example, the cleric leading the worship using the collected "faith" to temporarily raise his level, allowing him to cast a spell he's normally not high enough to cast.

Well? Input?

1xp/level assuming ~4 holy days per year should be almost unnoticable by anyone; peasant, noble or PC.

For the boosting your level concept, you could adapt Circle Magic from the Red Wizard PrC.
