Can Prestige classes incur multi-class XP penalties?

Actually, the penalty is 20% per class that's out of whack.

So, if you've got two out-of-whack classes, you get a 40% XP penalty.

Sorry, you are correct on this one. PHB does say for each class (i.e., cumulative).

Although, since it's not part of the errata, it does incur a penalty. I don't know if anyone chooses to run it that way or houserule it like the rest of us. :)
Thanee runs it that way actualy.

For some reason, WotC let the errata process lapsed. We even yet to see if Complete Warrior has errata since many mistakes and discrepancies have been spotted by purchaser of said book.

But since PrCs are optional rules, that's up to the DM.

That's because it actually takes effort when publishing errata to make sure it's correct and doesn't conflict with un-errata-ed rules. The FAQ and RotG completely ignore any existing rules as it sees fit and because they don't actually suggest changes to the rules (they only suggest houserules), WotC does not need to be rigorous about them.

We play it that way. Makes favored classes a bit more important and gives a little incentive to stay with your class. :)

Regardless of "levels", you still don't incur penalties for such things IF you take another prestige class onTOP OFanother.
