Bullcrap.
A pit fiend will kill a balor toe to toe.
The even out-brute the brute Balor. Balors need a serious kick in the ass for 4E and should be a solo brute that sells the game just as much as Beholders.

Just so you know, that phrase was a joke made by a player/character in an old 1st Edition campaign. I think it may have been around the second time we'd given Llolth a beat-down, but before we'd used the Rod of Seven Parts to kill Set, and LONG after Asmodeus had taken one of the PC's to be his personal slave for eternity for muttering "Arsewholemodeus" under his breath at the First Great Mexican Standoff that occurred when we'd gone to the nether regions to kill the replacement being hatched for Tiamat after we'd killed HER.

Though I hadn't meant my comment as anything but humor the fact that you seem to take it so seriously demands a response. Nothing in this game is ever anything but exactly what the individual DM wants and needs it to be. Always was that way and I have no reason to doubt that it always will be. That means that in the right time, place, and to the right PC's...

PIT FIENDS ARE WEE WEES.

Prove me wrong. :)
