Can you do inifinite damage?

Actually, the rule is "treat it as if you had rolled a 2". Which makes the combo work.
Of course, the part about the die "showing" the maximum amount to continue to reroll confuses things. As DM one could easily argue that since the die does not actually show a 2, regardless of whether it is deemed to roll a 2, you cannot continue to reroll if a 1 comes up. It refers to the physical die, not the numerical result.

They were talking about taking a neutron star ...

So where does one find a neutron star in the average fantasy campaign world? How does one get close enough to it to cast Polymorph Any Object? Are there rules for saves vs. massive gravity? What are the d20 stats for neutronium, anyway?

Silly CharOp boards ...

Actually, I can see letting them attempt it. Of course, it would involve a side quest of rather epic scope (none of this building it right off, you go get the bleedin thing).

And if they somehow manage to pull it off, well thats what we have Chaositech for. ;)

I remember in my youth how one of my friends would argue incessantly how Hachiman was the most powerful deity (combat-wise, of course) in the 1e D&DG. I knew in my heart the argument was pointless (many gods had auto-win items, for example), but for some reason I used to humor him by arguing that Raiden could kick Hachiman's butt. Ah, there's nothing like being young and stupid.
