Can you get denied a Reflex Saving Throw.

Is the impossible Reflex saving throw any different to the situations where a grenade explodes with someone standing adjacent and yet suffers no shrapnel injuries? Luck is a wonderful thing.

I was thinking of a notoriously harsh module series; on some of the deeper levels players are denied their Reflex Saves while in sets of narrow tunnels. These same tunnels provide a penalty to attack rolls etc (depending on PC size) so it didn't seem out of line to deny the save as well -- the idea is that you wedge yourself in the tunnel and then squirm towards your destination.

I thought it was a neat rat-bastard trick, so I don't much care for the ruling that you can Evade even while unconscious. ;-)

The latest 3.5 FAQ update ducked this same question.

It didn't address the line in the Evasion ability description that states that a character who does not have room to move cannot use Evasion, as with a Reflex Save for any creature.

But a helpless creature has room to move. It just can't use it. See? Simple :p

Come on, Hyp ... stop picking on the Sage just because he's always wrong ... :)

That's a separate debate, and I disagree. But apart from that...

The FAQ answer says "You always get a Reflex save; here are some conditions that interfere".

He hasn't listed "no room to move". He's said "a helpless creature can make a Reflex save", but he's noted helpless as unconscious, paralyzed, or asleep. He hasn't mentioned that a bound creature is also helpless, and specifically can't use Evasion, as with a Reflex Save for any creature.

Which is perhaps not surprising, because then he'd have to explain why you can't make a Reflex save if you're tied up, but you can if you're 'frozen in place'.

It is just more player coddling minotaur-scat idea from wotc to sell thier PHBs. Only core class that has 'Karma' on thier side is the paladin with divine grace.
