Can You Help With Frog God Games' Charles Wright's Medical Expenses?

Charles Wright of Frog God Games is in hospital. The art director was in surgery to have part of his foot removed after diabetes related complications, a situation which has escalated to complete amputation below the knee. A US military veteran, he lacks funds for personal help and transport to therapy, and his friends at Frog God Games have launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds to help him. They're looking for $10,000, and they're already most of the way there, but every extra penny counts.

There's also an update regarding The Blight Kickstarter campaign. While it says that currently there are no specific delays, they anticipate that there will be some effect on the delivery schedule of the Kickstarter.

[h=4]Update from Krista and Bill Webb[/h]
First, we can't express how grateful we are for the response to this plea for help. Chuck is deeply moved by the generosity of his friends and FGG fans. Thank you.

Second, update on his condition. What started as the removal of a few toes alarmingly developed into a complete amputation of his leg below the knee. This was the worst case scenario and now we must deal with it.

I just spoke to one of his nurses. He will be in the SICU for another day and then be moved to the "floor" where his stump will heal, he will be fitted for a prosthesis, and learn how to use a walker and get around. The nurse said he would be moved soon as he is strong and doing really well (good news). He will remain in the hospital for a week or two at the most (which seems way too short for all that!!). We will have a better idea of how long he will be in hospital care early next week.

If you would like to send him a card or note of encouragement the contact address is:

Charles Wright
c/o James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital
13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd.
Tampa, FL 33612

The whole FGG team is working to find him the resources he will need to function in both the near future and farther down the road to full recovery. We need our layout guy! And we love him and are sick with worry for him.

Again, thank you for your generosity and help. It will definitely ensure he is housed and fed and getting to his therapy appointments.

Gratefully,
Krista and Bill Webb

I am super poor, or else I would help, as FGG is one of my favorite publishers. Only reason I have any of their things is because some of my players are amazing and buy me things on occasion.

The costs involved with Chuck aren't simply the surgery. He's going to need to relocate to be closer to the physical therapy. his adjustment is going to be huge, as initially it was thought he might lose a few toes, instead he lost the leg under the knee. I do believe he is at a VA Hospital which is 40 miles from where he lives now.

If you've given to help Chuck or are going to give, if you let me know over at The Tavern, a number of publishers have donated gifts for a random giveaway to donors. Details are here: http://www.tenkarstavern.com/2016/04/update-charles-chuck-wright-frog-god.html

Besides, from the GoFundMe page - the funds are for after-care not necessarily the surgery and hospital bill itself. The "getting through day to day after a major hospitalization" can be a huge strain with a lot of surprises and unknowns:

"Chuck is a Gulf War veteran who lives outside of Tampa FL. The Veterans Administration hospital in Tampa is his only health insurance. He currently lives over an hour from this hospital. He has no options for care closer to his home.

When he gets out of the hospital, he will urgently need personal help (care and food), transportation to and from physical therapy, and income to support him until he is able to work again. It's possible he may not be able to function in his current living space, so he will need financial help obtaining a handicapped accessible apartment and moving.

He is scared and alone right now. We hope everyone in the RPG community reaches out to him with love and supports this appeal. Money won't cure his diabetes or get his foot back, but it could keep him in a home and cared for during rehabilitation from the amputation. "

I can't imagine the emotional strain he is going through, so it's great to see the generosity and outpouring of support!

The VA also has a program right now that could work. It is called Veteran's choice, or Veteran's Access. If someone lives over 40 miles away from care, they may be eligible.

http://www.va.gov/opa/choiceact/

If someone could relay it to him, he would call 1-866-606-8198 to find out if he is eligible and if there are any doctors or therapists that are participating in the program in his community. It could be that they could find someone right next door or very close to where he is living.

Additionally, though normally for elderly, it may be possible he could also qualify for Veteran directed Care

http://www.va.gov/geriatrics/guide/longtermcare/Veteran-Directed_Care.asp

While he's still at the hospital, have him ask for aids who work in this area to see if he would qualify for this type or other in home assistance.

So... what's the deal with health care in the States? If this happened in Canada, he would have all his medical care, his prosthetic, his physiotherapy, everything he needs paid for by the public healthcare system.
