Can you Mord Disjunction an Umbral Blot?

GuardianLurker

As the title says. Can you cast Mordenkainen's Disjunction on an Umbral Blot, and what would the effect be?

Edit: Whoops. Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the move.

Well, first you would have to overcome its SR of 44, and then it would depend on how your DM rules on constructs. If a construct IS vulnerable to disjunction, then it would get a Wil save vrs. the disjunction as noted in the spell description.

So, assumming that the construct IS vulnerable to disjunction, the caster beats the SR, and the Umbral Blot fails its Wil save, then I would rule it destroyed.

So I guess the counter-question I would have is: Are constructs vulnerable to disjunction?

Well, firstly, SR doesn't apply to a Disjunction, so that's not a problem.

What is a problem, though, is that while constructs are made like magic items, they aren't magic items themselves (as evidenced by the fact that an Anti-Magic field will suppress a magic item, but not a constrcut).

As a DM, I'd say "no, that doesn't work" when trying to kill a construct with MD.

Constructs are creatures, while mage's disjunction affects "all magical effects and magic items within a 40-ft.-radius burst".

So: no.

And that's a key bit of info we missed last night.

As it turns out, I let the Disjunction work - at 23rd level, save or die effects are part of the game, and flow was more important. But it's nice to know for future reference.

Thanks all.
