Can you replace a psicrystal?

the Jester

Legend
A pc (with psicrystal affinity) dies. Their psicrystal dies over the intervening months. A few years later she's true rezzed.

Can she get another psicrystal? How? Is it automatic?

Thanks in advance!

Yep, we're using the XPH... but the player involved pointed out to me that it says nothing about replacing your psicrystal if it's lost or destroyed, and that replacing a familiar requires an expenditure of money.

You probably need to spend a new feat, if you are going by the book.
As you said, it doesn't give any option to replace it.

However, this seems kinda harsh, and I'd just allow to recreate one, altho it should at least cost XP, just like when a wizard loses the familiar (not sure right now, if you lose XP, if you lose the psicrystal, if not, recreating should at least cost some, that is).

It did come up a while ago, and I think the consensus was, that it is simply gone for good (or rather bad).

The feat allows you to get a psicrystal.

The psicrystal is a fragment of the characters personality brought to life by the construct, they are always a part of it.

If the psicrystal is destroyed then the character simply makes another. I would treat it as no loss of memory for the crystal either, its personality fragment simply returned to the character and then it placed into the new container.

After all, the psion did not lose the feat (which lets him gain a psicrystal) and there is no penalty for loseing it (exp, not being able to remake it, etc) so I see no reason to disallow it.

SRD:
PSICRYSTAL AFFINITY [PSIONIC]
You have created a psicrystal.
Prerequisites: Manifester level 1st.
Benefit: This feat allows you to gain a psicrystal.

PSICRYSTALS
A psicrystal is a fragment of a psionic character’s personality, brought into physical form and a semblance of life (via the Psicrystal Affinity feat). A psicrystal appears as a crystalline construct about the size of a human hand.
Because it is an extension of its creator’s personality, a character’s psicrystal is in some ways a part of him.
