The region 'Blackmoor' in the World of Greyhawk campaign is mainly a tribute to Dave Arneson, AFAIK. Again, AFAIK, it was placed there in the 70's by EGG when Gygax and Arneson were co-developing the original D&D rules and running separate campaigns.Tuzenbach said:IIRC, my original Greyhawk maps have Blackmoor exisiting as a land to the extreme North of the Greyhawk world. Were they meant to connect?
And the whole technology thing-Expedition To Barrier Peaks?

Other than the afore-mentioned tribute, WoG's 'Blackmoor' has little to do with Arneson's Blackmoor. I think many people who play Greyhawk ignore the region.
OK, I may have mispoken. I certainly didn't mean people who played Greyhawk couldn't enjoy Blackmoor!the Jester said:I loved it, back in my Greyhawk days! Blackmoor, just south of the Land of Black Ice, which was caused by technilogical radiation imc (this was before I knew anything at all about Arneson's Blackmoor...).

There was quite a long discussion on this on the Blackmoor Yahoo group (which I believe is defunct - if anyone can link to it, I'd appreciate it). As I recall, Dave Arneson denies the Egg of Coot is a reference to Gary Gygax. Eventually, the REAL person whom the Egg was based upon, arrived on the board and confirmed. This person was a hard-core wargamer, who didn't think much of the new-fangled role-playing.
I really wish I could link to the discussion, so you guys knew I wasn't talking out my butt. Can anyone back me up on this?
