Can you tumble while charging?

You must have a clear path toward the opponent, and nothing can hinder your movement (such as difficult terrain or obstacles).

Tumbling hinders your movement (each square counts double for movement purposes). If you used:

Accelerated Tumbling: You try to tumble past or through enemies more quickly than normal. By accepting a –10 penalty on your Tumble checks, you can move at your full speed instead of one-half your speed.

Then yeah, you could tumble while charging.

I thought tumbling was a move action (or part of a move action). A charge is a full-round action is it not? Thus you cannot do both.

It's debated. DanMCS solution is the one of the guys who allow it at all.

I never would have thought it allowable, but I went hunting through the SRD to find parts to quote and show why. The hindered movement thing is the obvious reason, but then I noticed that fast movement modifier in the tumble skill; that wasn't there in 3.0, was it? Seems like that does away with the movement hinderance to me.

"DC 15: Tumble at one-half speed as part of normal movement, provoking no attacks of opportunity while doing so."

Is a charge normal movement? It doesn't say "as part of a move action".

Mmph, I dunno. So, I waffle.

Never seems to come up in play. They guys that want to tumble (to get into good flanking position, or in and out of combat without AoOs) are typically not the guys that want to charge and lay the smack down.

I wouldn't allow it simply because charging is a full-round action. I feel the info in the SRD about taking the penalty to tumble at full speed is intended to speed up your movement and get farther into, out of, or around hte room. Regardless of that penalty, I have told my players, charging is still a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity from people you by-pass, therefore it can't be combined with actions that are part of a move action. I know this won't settle the debate by any means, but I thought I would throw my two-cents worth in! ;)

Tumble skill says "normal movement" which I read as a plain old move action, not anything else (like a charge or run action).

Tumble doesn't say it must be part of a move action.
