Can't connect to my wireless network

I have a computer running Windows XP, with a wireless ethernet card, connecting to a router that is connected to a modem that is connected to our digital cable. There are three computers in the apartment that use this network -- one connects to the router directly with an ethernet cable, and mine and another use the wireless. One of the wireless computers (the one I'm using to post this plea) can get online. Mine cannot.

Now, for the odd things. My computer recognizes my ethernet card and says it's functioning properly. It says that it is disconnected from the network, and when I try to use the 'connect to wireless networks' it shows none. However, the wireless connection utility does detect the presence of networks.

So I'm wondering what's going on. It seems like my computer knows there are networks present, but it cannot connect. Even if our network required a password or a key, wouldn't I be prompted to type it? What can I do?

Ask whatever questions you need, and I'll provide all the information.

Not sure if this will help, but try changing the channel your router uses. As I understand it, cordless phones use random channels, and will occasionally pick one (and stay on one) that messes up wireless connections.

No idea why it would mess up yours and not the other computer's, but I remember that happening to me as well (two computers on wireless, one messed up, one not).

You have to set up the proper encryption, maybe.

Or set the wireless router to broadcast its presence for as long as you need to make the connection and set things up (like the password / shared key), but then set it back to non-broadcasting afterwards.

EDIT: Reading your other thread... it could also be, that your OS does not support wireless properly. I think you need XP with Service Pack 1 or 2 for that.

Bye
Thanee

My roommates figured out the problem. It involved setting up the wireless network again from the get-go. Apparently we'd been doing things wrong whenever the router messed up. Now hopefully we will do things right.
