I really like using Mage Hand to hold a torch for the party...

If it's useful, that makes the action of a totally different character than many of those which were described.

He always uses Mage Hand to touch anything filthy...

At least in 1st edition, good 'dungeon hygiene' was pretty much essential to survival. Pretty much anything that was filthy had a good chance of containing, disease, rot grubs, green slime, or deadly mold of some sort.
