Captain and Crew

In my Swashbuckling Campaign the PCs may be taking an ocean voyage in a few levels. I have one player who is interested in the possibility of the leadership feat. I have a couple of questions:

Do PCs who take Leadership get a Cohort and Followers? It seems like they do, but I have never seen it in practice. If so, in the captain and crew idea, who is the Cohort and who the followers? Could a Captain be the highest level Follower and their be another Cohort entirelly? I understand that the PC would be the one making decisions, but since he isn't really quallified to run a ship someone would need to handel the daily tasks.

This has probablly been adressed on other threads, but in doing a quick search I couldn't find an answer to my question as such.

A captain and crew would be an excellent use of the leadership feat in my opinion. Who the cohort is can be up to you and your player. it could be the captain if you want, but that would limit your cohort to ship duties maybe and take some of the fun of having a cohort away.

Exactly how many followers you have is dependant on the PCs level and charisma modifier plus a few other variables listed in the DMG. Look at that for more info.

Otterscrubber, thanks.
I understand how to calculate number of followers from the DMG, I want to know if a Cohort is included in that number or is the Cohort a seperate benifit of the feat?
