Carrying my minis... Ideas?

If you work in the tech industry or know somebody who does, some cards, especially expensive server ones, come in nice cardboard boxes with foam eggcrate padding. These are light, sturdy and hold minis well, especially if you're just trying to take the few you expect to use rather than all of them.

I would second the magnets idea. You can get magnetic sheets to stick on the bottom of your minis so that they simply "stick" to the base of the container. The only down side is the box may get a little heavy if you are storing metal minatures in a metal container.

It is better to stick magnets in the bottom of your carrying case, and metal foil on the bottom of your figures (or base them on 25mm washers). Cheaper too.

I use one of these. But, I'll be upgrading--too many minis.

Thank you all for your great ideas. I'll have to pass them over to my darling wife and wait to see what idea she'll give me for X-mas.

Here we go- the evolution (evilution to my wife) of my figure storage

Lose not very good
Shoe boxes not very useful (still use this for Yugi and Mage Knight)
Borad boxes These boxes carried mother borads at my place of work. 18x12x2 with foam Still have but don't use.
Chessex Boxes (then 25 now 35 each) sturdy plastic boxes with foam cells
The foam punchouts work well for building ruins also ;)
Games Workshop Nice enough boxes. Even allow room for a few books which is nice
Large Fish Box At Walmart I found for 40 dollars a large carrying bag for tackle boxes. It holds 6 10x15x1.5 boxes (comes with 4 and one 5x5x5 box) Works very well for my Heroclix.

Now for the newest- DnD Miniatures series-

I use multi-drawer storage shelves. Again at Walmart- for 5.50 I can buy a three drawer case that measures 8x8x2. Since I now DM again this works well as I have labeled them by type and set.

As for the Huge minis and some of my bigger figures- "Look honey- my Huge Red Dragon and Huge Gold Dragon had babies (4 Treants)" and remain on shelves ...just like 15 years ago when I first started.... :heh:

When looking into cases- think about function, price and size. My new drawers work well but can't travel. My Games Workshop and Chessex work well to travel but are notr as much fun to look at as on the shelf lose.

I use thread organizers, which you can get for $1-$2 each at sewing supply or craft stores. For my metal minis, I put in foam padding; the plastic WOTC minis go in without foam. The ones I use have 15-18 compartments that each comfortably hold 1 Large or 2 Medium minis -- or you can pack 4 or 5 plastic WOTC minis in each compartment if there's no foam.

While I have a whole stack of those cases, two is usually sufficient when I travel to DM.

I use plastic pistol cases designed to hold 4 pistols each. I use the egg carton foam that comes with them, olacing figures in pairs base to base.

The only thing the Army Transport case needs to be perfect is a pair of straps so that it could be worn like a back pack. I haven't bought one yet, but they are very nice.
