Cartoon d20?

Zibik

First Post
I'm in the market for a product dealing with cartoons. By cartoons I mean the old
Warner Brothers and Disney esq slapstick type cartoons. I know of Toon from SJGs,
but are there any others? Maybe something d20 based?

Any ideas?

It strikes me that Teenagers From Outer Space could be easily adapted to a 'cartoon' RPG.

There is another 'cartoon' RPG out there, claiming to be able to simulate everything in any 1980's cartoon series, but I don't remember the name and I wasn't impressed with it at all.

Not at all d20 related, but look up the old "tales from the floating vagabond" game.

We had a great game where I was a penguin with cartoon-esque explosives powers, & and "infinitely deep" trench coat I could pull anything out of. Another party member had the "don't look down" effect and the other members where just as whacky.

We formed a rock band & fought music pirates - real, eyepatch wearing, "avast ye scoundrels", music-pirate...on the high seas.

Probably Cartoon Acrtion Hour, but it's not designed to do all cartoons, just adventure cartoons like the old He-Man, Johnny Quest, Transformers and so forth (hence the title of the game). For those it works okay, though some parts of it seemed to be needlessly complex (somewhat reminiscient of HERO FRED in that respect). For slap stick cartoons, I think it would be poor at best. Me? I'd look at Risus (the Really Incredibly Simple Universal System) for something like that.

There is also a game out now with a very similar system -- Chaos University. Instead of taking place in space, however, it takes place on Earth after magic (like full-blown fantasy magic) comes back to the world. Merlin (yes, that Merlin) founds a univeristy to teach the world's youth the ways of magic so that they can help contain the chaos and prepare future generations of humanity to deal with it. It's loads of fun, if a bit heavy on the adult humor.

Polyhedron had a d20 based minigame in which players took the role of crime soliving teenagers and their weird talking pets a la Scooby Doo, Josie and the Pussycats, Jabberjaws, etc. That was several years ago. But, as others have said, for the slap stick effect the only one I can think of is SJ Game's Toon.

Wow it greatly suprises me that some third party d20 publisher hasn't adapted or created a system for something like this. Although I do suppose it is a bit of a the niche market. Thanks for the alternative titles...I'll check them out.

We're actually working on a fairy tale d20 system that should be easily adaptable to cartoons... It's pretty far from production, though.

I'd take a look at using the PDQ system / Zorcerer of Zo for this purpose.
