Cartoons for Geeks Both Young and Old

I do not think some of these suggestions necessarily hold up that well, but a good number of them could probably be remade into stellar cartoons in this day and age. I really think that King Arthur and the Knights of Justice could make a great transition, if given the chance and a competent team.

No love for Invader Zim yet? Also, second the recommendation for Justice League/JLU. So many great lines (Flash: "I'm the world's fastest man!" Hawkgirl: "Maybe that's why you can't get a date.")

I watched a few old episodes not long ago.

Doesn't hold up well, IMO.

The animation in Macross/Robotech is dated, of course (particularly a few well-known episodes drawn by the farm team), but no worse than anything else of the era IMO. It holds up better in context in other ways, too - consider that it is an early 80s animated kids' show in which multiple main characters die, the invading green aliens are morally ambiguous and not at all homogenous, most of the earth's population is annihilated, and the conflict is not resolved through action heroics or military might.

Does Star Wars - The Clone Wars count as a cartoon?

I agree that Robotech looks outdated, but I watched the whole series again a few years back, and still enjoyed it.

Gummi Bears was always a hoot! :)

Where's Batman: The Brave and the Bold? That's one show I can sit down and watch with my 3-year-old and 7-year-old, and we all can enjoy for different reasons.

I really liked Siegfried and Roy Masters of the Impossible cartoon when I was a kid. Not sure how well it'd hold up for an adult or where you'd find it all.
