Caster level after only 1 fatespinner lvl?

Skaros

First Post
If my 6th level sorcerer takes a single level of fatespinner, what is his caster level for the purpose of casting arcane spells?

A 1st lvl fatespinner doesn't get an extra "+1 to existing class" benefit. However, I notice in the description for fatespinner it gives an example of a lvl 5 wizard, lvl 1 fatespinner being able to store up to 6 points of fate. Since the amount of fate you can store is based on your "caster level", it made me think that perhaps the caster level is indeed 6.

Enlightenment please :-)

Thanks,

Skaros

I disagree. While you only get more spells based on the +1 spell level, I believe most PrC advance caster level 1/level regardless of increased spells. (ex Fatespinner, Divine Agent).

Some PrC have their own spell advancement so for them I use the PrC level as the caster level (ex Assassin, Bladesinger, Animal Lord).

Anyone know of any helpful text or rulings that can clear this up a little?

The "Spells per day" section for each prestige class really doesn't specifically address caster level. It directly addresses spells per day ("the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to..."), and specifically mentions benefits you DON'T gain with a "+1 level of existing class" benefit, but thats it.

The +1 caster level is like gaining one level in the spellcasting class. That's the only thing that increases caster level.
