Caster Level vs Spell Penetration

Sledge

First Post
I was reading the latest "Bladesinger" prestige class and I came to a stunning conclusion. When I played a bladesinger kit in 2nd edition I did it for flavor only. Most of the flavour stuff is either just rpg (commitment to help elves no matter what) or already in feats. My only problem is the fact that trading levels of fighter and wizard leads to the problem that only buff and acid spells work anyone with spell resistance. Thus I get the crux of my problem. The only items I can find that help defeat spell resistance are the robe of the archmagi and the orange ioun stone. The orange stone says simply +1 caster level. Does this mean that it actually provides more spells etcetera or does it simply mean the spell penetration style bonus given by the robe of the archmagi?

A little while ago someone posted the breakdown of the robe of the archmagi costs. Any remember the title to that thread?

+1 caster level only means you can cast spells at a higher effect.

It does not provide additional spells and such, what normally comes with class levels that add to caster level.

That's the answer I was hoping for. Is this spelled out anywhere? My books are 3.0 but I use 3.5 via the srd. Anyone remember if it is at all referenced?

That's not necessary. +1 caster level is +1 caster level not +1 class level.

The PrC that add to caster level use a different term... +1 level of existing class!
