Casting call for "song of Ice and Fire"

Ooh, Willem Dafoe would be an awesome Lord Bolton! He's just got that creepy quality that I always associate with the Lord of the Dreadfort.

Hugo Weaving as Roose Bolton, I think.

Michael Wincott as Sandor Clegane.

Those are the only two I'm absolutely decided on.

Ah, that reminds me. I'd had Brian Thompson pretty well inked in for the Hound. Lots of experience in make-up as a muscled up bad guy (Buffy, Star Trek, etc.).

Wincott's an intriguing choice however...

Jamie Lannister: Matthew McConaghay
Cercei Lannister: Gwynneth Paltrow
Daenerys: Julia Stiles
Eddard Stark: Russel Crow (as in the Gladiator)
Caetlyn Stark: Michelle Pfiefer
Tywin Lannister: Patrick Steward (he'd be a good Stannis too)
Stannis Baratheon: Michael Ironside (or Tywin..he'd be good too)

This is what popped into my head as I read the books.

Myrdden

Roose Bolton - Christopher Walken
Catelyn Stark - Susan Sarandon
Theon Greyjoy - Leonardo DiCaprio (I hate him, but that makes him even better for the role)
Maester Aemon - Sean Connery
Tyrion Lannister - Robin Williams - remember people, we have special effects to "squash" people now
Joffrey Baratheon - damn, can't use DiCaprio for every foppish villain. How about that *&$%^# "Home Alone" kid?
Robb Stark - if Sean Penn was younger...

NRG

First of all, it's highly unlikely that major movie stars could be signed to do a tv series (even if it was HBO or Showtime). But, assuming that it was possible:

-Would Danny DeVito be too old for Tyrion? Even with makeup? Barring him, perhaps Jeremy Piven (P.C.U.) could be made to look short enough. The midget from Death to Smoochy would also work very well.

-Nicole Kidman as Cercei Lannister. No offense to Ms. Kidman, but I think she'd play a better "stuck-up slut" than any of the previously mentioned actresses.

-Gary Busey Jr. (Tomcats, the creepy religious fanatic from Contact) as Jaime Lannister.

-Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Merlin miniseries) as Eddard Stark.

-I'd put Russell Crowe as Robert Baratheon rather than Eddard. Robert requires the physique more than Eddard would (and Crowe's supposed to be kinda fat now anyways, which works for latter day Robert).

-Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter) as King Stannis.

-The Rock would work as Khal Drogo, no really, he would. The Khal doesn't speak all that much, and The Rock definitely looks the part.

-Ewan MacGregor as Theon Greyjoy

-And nobody's tried to cast Jon Snow yet! I'd probably pick Tom Welling from Smallville.

I can't figure out who I'd want for Danaerys though. You'd need someone who was beautiful, somewhat exotic-looking, and very young-looking. And over 18 if you wanted to be true to the books...

Yeah, I'm not entirely clear on the legality of filming a 15-year-old girl wearing gowns that leave one breast bare.

Anyone see Conan the destroyer? The Actress that played the blonde was only 15 when She did it. I forget her name. but some of that stuff she was wearing was pretty revieling, IMO. Not as much as one breast bare thou.

Good call, that. Him, Jason Isaacs and Michael Ironside are guys who you'd have to get.

Daenerys: Samantha Morton (Precog chick from Minority Report - I think that's the right name.)

I also agree with:

Robert Baratheon: Russell Crowe
Khal Drogo: The Rock

Edit: John Hurt and Jeremy Irons. Need to get them in there somewhere. Maybe Hurt as Master Aemon.

That's Jake Busey. I'd be really, really reluctant to cast such an "aw, shucks" kind of country-boy actor in a fantasy project like this. Be tough to make it work.

Cersei- Nicole Kidman. The ice queen/charming matriarch on/off thing is too perfect, I think, and when she rages (see MALICE) she's deadly.

Joffrey- Macauley Culkin would do fine. I think Martin had him in mind when he wrote about how he had lips that looked like worms.

I would cast unknowns as almost all the Starks except for Bran- Haley Joel Osment could do that well enough for me.

King Stannis- Patrick Stewart? Sounds good, count me in.

Danaerys- I really like the Danica McKellar suggestion someone sounded before. I think she would work. She's got a childlike face, but can be regal and commanding (I'm betting). Second choice: unknown with crazy actin' skills.

Viserys- That "Pacey" guy from Dawson's Creek. Cause... what the hell.

Littlefinger- someone suggested Gary Oldman, and that sounds perfect.

Renly- John Corbin? Mark Metcalf?

Davos- Harvey Keitel?

Jorah Mormont- A toned Ray Liotta

Sandor Clegane- Vin Diesel's got the voice. I like the Brian Thompson suggestion.
