casting characters(ot?)

Hmmm, let's see...

Barbarian: Vincent d'Onofrio (the Cell)

Bard: John Turturro. Passionnate, deep, bard. More of an actor than a musician.

Cleric: Jodie Foster?

Druid: Alyssa Milano (i could have put her as a sorceror, but, ya know)

Fighter: Michelle Yeoh

Monk: Chow Yun Fat

Paladin: Kyle Mclauchglan (sp?) or Denzel Washington maybe?

Ranger: Liam Neeson (its hard not to say Kevin

Rogue: Kevin Spacey. Smart rogue rather than an acrobatic one. I'd also see Kevin Kline in the role...

Sorceror: Tim Roth, or Benicio del Toro, or Monica Belluci.

Wizard: John Laroquette. Nicole Kidman?

Ok so this exercise was mostly me trying to give D&D roles to my favorite actors :)

has everyone just sort of forgoton Sean Connory?

I think he would probably be great as a bit part, like, the king, or an anceint wizard, or something.

Take yer pic  :

Fighter - Christopher Lambert

Battlemage/Loremaster - Sean Connery - Can fight like a demon, say things in a really menacing manner(SPELLS!), and knows EVERYTHING! Perfect!

Druid - Famke Jassen

Bard - Cedric the Entertainer - BOOYA!

Rogue - Michael Whalberg

Cleric - Julianne Moore

Barbarian - Arnold Schwarznegger, Baby!

Sorcerer - Christopher Walken

Wizard - Tommy Lee Jones or Orson Wells

The Wizard's Familiar - A Pixie played by Julia Roberts

Pack Mule/Guide - John-Rhys Davies - 'Indy! They're digging in the wrong spot!":D

Ranger - Liam Neeson

Paladin - Carrie-Ann Moss

BBEG - Michael Ironside as a Blackguard, no other choice.

The Cardinal said:
Wizard - Alexis Denisof (from Buffy, Angel)

Actually, he'd be my pick for the Paladin. When he shaves, he's got a very clean-and-wholesome look to him. And, he's shown that he does physical quite well.

If you want to pull Buffy cast, I'd pick Nic Brendan (Xander) as the Wizard. Dunno exactly why, but I think he'd pull of a low-level wizard quite nicely, keeping us away from long beards and pointy hats.

I'd also tap Eliza Dushku as a Bard more than Rogue. I don't think she'd come of so well as a sneak, but she'd definitely make a good "face". Not to mention, it'd be cool to see he make flippant use of bardic knowledge.

Hmmm... 4 person party? I'd go with different casts depending on the target audience/genre. Thank goodness for IMDB, to get the names straight.

Coming of age movie / teenage audience
Rogue. This class can be comedy (like the rogue in Conan) or tragedy (like the old Robin Hood series). I think that guy from Dawson's Creek could do tragedy. No, not the blonde guy. The dark haired guy with all the conflict: Joshua Jackson. He's smart, he's intense, and he can act. He would have been good as Anakin Skywalker, oh well. For comedy, I'd go with Aston Kucher (Kelso from That 70s Show).

Paladin: Gotta be tough and virtous, but to be interesting there also has to be weakness. I'd go with the blonde guy from NYPD Blue--Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Yep: "Zack" from Saved by the Bell.

Sorceror/Wizard: Eliza Dushku as a sorceror. This chick is Bad. She does "psycho with barely-constrained-power" real well. And boy does she have Charisma. Or, Natalie Portman as a nerdy but superhot elf wizard. Think "Mialee".

Cleric of Farhlangn <sp>: Seth Green. A good foil for the Paladin.

Summer blockbuster / young adult audience
Thief: Bruce Campbell. No brainer.

Fighter: Vin Diesel. He has huge arms, looks like he'd *enjoy* wearing plate mail, and can smash things. Total fighter.

Sorceror: Antonio Banderas. He's crazy, he could pull off the "natural magic" thing.

Cleric: Samuel L Jackson. Oh yeah. Here's some dialogue:
Orc: Which holy symbol is yours?
Cleric: It's the one that says "Bad Motherworshipper"

Ugh.. actually, I can't imagine these actors on the screen at the same time. They're all fine alone, but together just doesn't work.

Okay, hmmm.

Winter release "film" / adult audience
Cleric of St. Cuthburt: Ed Norton. As someone above pointed out, he'd be perfect as a religious fanatic.

Barbarian: Definitely Brad Pitt. Okay, he's been picked before too. Hmmm. Gotta get original. And find someone who won't be dwarfed by these two.

Rogue: George Clooney. He could do it, he'd fit in with the other two but now it's looking like a recast of Ocean's Eleven.

Mage: Gotta be female, to balance out the testosterone. How about... Cameron Diaz?

D&D as comedy:

Rogue: Luke Wilson.

Cleric: Seth Green.

Fighter: Owen Wilson.

Sorceror: Ben Stiller.

The D&D Movie that should have been made in the 80's / a.k.a. "Young Wands-of-Magic-Missiles"

Paladin: Charlie Sheen

Sorceror: Emilio Estevez

Rogue: Val Kilmer

Cleric: John Cusack

Okay I'm out of ideas.

Don't we have a 'Who would you cast to play the Iconic Characters' thread somewhere?

I think Jason Lee could pull off a Rogue or Sorcerer. Maybe even a Gnome :)

I'd personally like to see what Elija Wood could do with a fighter or barbarian role.
