Casting from Spell books

I think the point was to use a spellbook like a sorcerer with Master Staff would use a staff...

Maybe, but that is an epic ability and as such maybe a wee bit unbalancing at low-moderate levels. ;)

I'd just look for different means within the game system, which do what one is looking for, before inventing new ones.

It's a sorcerer after all, not a wizard. Spellbooks do nothing for them. :)

Or just have bound scrolls in the form of a book. The lettering on the pages disappears, but the page itself remains, allowing the book to be reused at the same price as creating a new scroll.

A nice idea.

I have a house rule for wizards to cast from their own spellbook, but they lose the spell and would have to relearn it afterwards. It's only been used once or twice, so I never had any problems with it affecting balance.

A sorcerer is another affair in my eyes. They cast spontaneously, and do not use spellbooks at all. I would not let a sorcerer cast from a spellbook, just like I don't let wizards cast from other's spellbooks. He doesn't understand it, and it is not magically imbued to work around that fact, like a scroll.

I agree. Have used the exact same house rule since 1E...you can cast from the spellbook in an emergency, but you loose the spell, just like a scroll. Also completely agree with not letting a sorcerer do it.
