The more we get into this thread, the more they see we are right. Maybe it will sink in... They're even turning their own arguments against themselves.

And besides, for the number of times this situation may come up in a campaign, it is a lot of talk. If I saw that occuring more than one or twice in a year (real time) I will be surprised.

Okay, then which part of your turn is your reaction? When the rules tell me what I can do on my turn, what do they say about my reaction?

First the text on page 91 of the 5.1 SRD
"A reaction is an instant response to a trigger of some kind, which can occur on your turn or on someone else's."

It is right there in, the reaction happens on your turn or someone else's turn.

I agree 100%. Your reaction can happen during your turn. It's not part of your turn, though, so restrictions on what you can do during your turn do not apply.

Stop trolling us.

Feel free to run it that way, but trying to claim that's the way the rules are written is absurd and disruptive.

Worse, by pretending we are in agreement your confusing the beginners. At least have the guts to stand by your opinion.

Here's mine:

You are entirely, completely and utterly wrong, Ovinomancer. Bye.

Okay, then which part of your turn is your reaction?

Um, the part of your turn where you do something that uses a Reaction? I'm not sure what other answer there is.

Everything that happens from the start of your turn to the start of the next person's turn is "on your turn" or "during your turn". If you do something that requires a Reaction in that time, it happens on your turn. If you do something that requires a Reaction during the time that someone else is having a turn, then your Reaction happens on their turn.

From the PHB, Combat chapter, The Order of Combat: A reaction is an instant response to a trigger of some kind, which can occur on your turn or on someone else's.

Not "in between turns" or "at some time isn't in anyone's turn" — "on your turn or on someone else's".

I'll try again.

Reactions are not part of your turn, even if they hasten during your turn. We can tell because the rules provide what you can do on your turn and reactions aren't part of it (you get a move, and action, and maybe a bonus action). Reactions are a special action that can happen anytime - during your turn, during someone else's turn, whenever it's trigger happens. So far, so good.

Here's the bit that I'm saying. The restriction on casting due to bonus action casting is a specific rule that trumps the general rule of what you do on your turn. That's the extent of the exception: only what you can do with your turn is affected. Therefore, even though your reaction may trigger during your turn and occur on it, outs not part of your turn (it's a special action outside of what you can do on your turn), and so restrictions on what you can do on your turn do not apply to it.

To sum up, the bonus cast restrictions only apply to the set of things you can do on your turn. A reaction is not part of your turn, though it may happen during it. Reactions are therefore not affected by restrictions on what you can do during your turn.

No, that's entirely wrong.

It is not supported by the rules, nor the Sage Advice, nor twitter replies.

It is time you accept you are running a house rule, Ovinomancer. A perfectly good one, I might add, but a house rule nonetheless.

I don't see any house rule on Ovinomancer's answer.
I see nothing in the sage advice supporting your view.
The only twitter I saw was about bonus action vs action you could use, just like the SA.

Again, a reaction interupts a turn.
It's a lot like a time-out in football or any sport. Whatever happens during that moment isn't part of the game. It can happen during one team's turn or on the other team's turn. Yes it is their turn, but the time-out is not part of the game. It is something that can happen but it is independent of who's turn it is.

Again, you just cite part of the rules that gives you right but leave the other in the dust. A reaction interupts the turn. If something is interupted, it is no longuer in effect. Then, when the reaction is resolved, the turn continues where it was at. It is as simple as that.

Where does it say this in the rules?
