Casting Time for Ghorus TOth's Metal Melt

First Post
I was going through my copy of Magic of Faerun, and I noticed that the spell Ghorus Toth's Metal Melt has no casting time, listed. Has anyone heard or read an official ruling about it? Otherwise, what do you guys think is a good and proper casting time for it? Personally, I think it should at least be one full round, but I am leaning towards making it one minute.

I think that I wouldn't make it a full minute or it would almost never be used. At least not in combat. I'm not sure what the designers had in mind as its use when they designed it but if it was combat a one minute casting time would definately proclude if from that.

Just a thought.

I see no reason why this needs to be even a full round action to cast. I think a casting time of one action is fine for this.

The thing is, this spell can effectively destroy many weapons and armor, and it can also ruin a lot of magic items (at least until the item is remade/repaired). it is almost like being able to throw a rust monster at anybody within close range. This is only a fourth level spell. I would place it as definitely better than rusting grasp (the closest similarly functioning spell of that level I could think of, even if it is a Druid spell), as it is ranged and outright eliminates armor, and, depending on a DM's ruling, might even end up turning into a much nastier tanglefoot bag when the metal becomes solid again. I do agree that it has incredible combat applications, but it seems a bit powerful, even as a 4th level spell. The only balancing factor I can think of is casting time, which is oddly absent from the text. And besides, even if we removed the combat applications with a long casting time, this spell has a buttload of usefulness built into it. That is why I think that it should be at least a full round casting time, if not longer.

Yah I see your point but the item is still going to get a save, and if it's a powerfull magic item it will probably be pretty good. I think I'd make it a full round.

Yeah, and also being ranged, there is less need for movement to close in on the target (although you might need to get away from the target), so making it a full round and losing that movement is not a bad trade-off, especially since you can still take a 5-foot step.
