The big difference between these D&D boardgames and Descent is the playing time: Descent takes 3+ hours normally. I love it to bits, but it's a long game. These will be a lot easier to play as pick-up games.
For those who really want to play Betrayal at the House on the Hill instead, Hasbro has apparently given the green light for a new revised edition (according to Bruce Glassco, the designer of the game), projected for release in Fall 2010.
New Haunts!
Revised and rebalanced old Haunts!
New Item and Event cards!
New counters, now with more graphics!
New cover art!
Revised rules, based on the FAQ!
Revised and updated components (the Underground Lake goes underground once more)!
New mechanic (for certain scenarios): hidden traitors!
Well, that's what Bruce says anyway - see the link.
Cheers!
