Does this have the same greyish background that the Gazetteer had?

I don't know. There are two or 3 PDF previews available on the Goodman website that will lilkely answer your question.

Most of the players I've played with online prefer text over voice. It is live via MapTool. If I had enough interest I could run it in Skype, but it's much easier to present room descriptions and describe events, for me at least, using chat.

I should also add that I'm waiting for the PDF version to be available before I run this. Does anyone know how soon that will be?

SKYPE also has a "chat" feature, so not only can you talk, but you can still cut and paste relevent text into that chat so players still get all the relevant stuff in writing.

Ever since I went talking live I haven't even considered going back to chat only. I like it better than face to face in many ways.

Yep, the 56 page Gazetteer appears to have the same dark greyscale background that the Gazetteer box set did. For me, that makes it illegible. I know that isn't the case for everyone, though.

The other books appear to have the standard DCC minimalist, clear lay-out, which is good.

MapTool has chat integrated into it, so you can see the map and chat in one screen.

What tool do you use for maps?

I have to say that I'd really like to pick this up, but the price is a real sticking point, as it's very difficult to justify at this time.

But it is very tempting.

I know how you feel.

I have to keep reminding myself that this stuff is equal to over $200.00 in DCC's to talk myself into it.

Well, no shops participated in free game day.

That adventure is $5+ s&h off of ebay (yeah, how lame).

Some online sellers don't have it for sale yet either (DCC 51.5).

Honestly, I can't wait to get it. I don't plan on moving to 4e (as a DM- don't game often enough and 3e works just fine), and I love the mega-dungeons.
