Back to Castle Zagyg: How large of a region is described in the book? Is it the obligatory independent city state, or does it have ties to the outside world? What sort of climate is it located in? Is it inland (with a river) or coastal? If it's on a coast, where's the water located, compared to the city?

Its approximately 1700 square miles. Let me look it up. OK, 50 miles east to west and 34 N to S. He also mentions areas off map and 3,000 sq miles, but I think that is a grand total that includes the 1700. Not crystal clear to me.

It is a temperate area and its main trade items are salt and a variety of gemstone garnets and silver.

It sits on the conjunction of two rivers that combine/feed into a third branch but keeps the name of the larger river. The city then dug a moat/canal on its East side to connect the two rivers and to have the city enclosed on all 3 sides.

Its governemtn is a council of 8 comprised of the richest banker, high priest of the main temple, and 6 others of high social standing. they elect an Lord Mayor who serves 10 year terms. The Lord Mayor is nominally in charge.
