Castle Zagyg is it 3.x compatible?

Zagyg notes the suggestion that brand new monsters will make conversion of the castle and dungeon levels material difficult. He will do his best to accommodate

I wouldn't sweat too much about the encounter difficulties. We pretty much know that this is Castle Greyhawk under a different name because of IP concerns and so on. In old school D&D, the PCs went into the dungeon and pretty much rolled with the punches, so I wouldn't see any problem running this the same way. And players these days really need to learn how to run from tough encounters :]

I hope this is based off of the Greyhawk ruins instead of the 'funny' castle greyhawk adventure. I think I would bet on the former, the Ruins.

That's a good bet;)

Orius, those who don't learn will need new PCs fairly frequently...or else have a lot of expendable treasure to pay for their PCs being brought back from the dead.

As a matter of fact my group was playing OD&D last Thursday, and my youngest son's PC did something ill-advised so as to depart the labnd of the living. the others in the party managed to escape the level, used the wish needed todo so to restore their lost comrade in the process.

Rashness and foolhardiness are harbingers of death, as is timidity, in such adventure setting.

Cheers,
Gary

Gary, I hope that doesn't mean that we won't see new and unique monsters in the Castle! :D

hi Alan:)

Actually, as the material is drawn from my original castle levels and dungeons, those that Rob Kuntz added when we merged out material, the critters and other encounters are mainly of the sort that is now standard. there will be a few new ones, and the treatment will be more contemporary, but...

Gary

I've finished editing most of Yggsburgh--Hi Gary!--and I can tell you it would be quite easy to convert/substitute material to make it 3.5-compatible.

This is going to be a great series; it has a classic feel to it. Certain sections gave me that "Keep on the Borderlands" tingle, and I mean that in the best possible way. Your PCs will have a lot of fun exploring this place, and even more fun interacting with the NPCs.

Can't some kind EnWorlder take care of these conversions...

...though I guess TL does not have a official conversion policy, and may not welcome such...

and for Col Pladoh's philosophy: convert if you dare (?) :uhoh:

To me, "conversion" always seemed a matter of looking in your preferred edition of the Monster Manual rather than at the published stats in the module. Yeah, this can throw off the level requirements, but that's why you do it the night before the game rather than day of.

Anywho, long story short: this series is gonna rock--Old School!
