Castles & Crusades: Best Books?

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
So, today I ordered both C&C Players Handbook and C&C Monsters & Treasure, locally, today. Those will be my 2nd and 3rd Castles and Crusades books. I already found a copy of Dark Chateau. :D

Of course, I want to find the other Castle Zagyg books; however, I know that will be very hard to asccomplish. Therefore, I'm wondering what else I should be looking at for C&C.

What's the skinny on the current product line from Troll Lord Games? Which of the adventures are great? Which are so-so? Which is better, Ring of Brass or Haunted Highlands? Which supplements are truly essential?

Plus, what other 3PPs are making C&C-compatible books?

Cheers!

Knightfall

The only recent-ish Troll Lord product that struck me as being put together exceptionally well is the Airdhe: After Winter's Dark folio. It's a great high fantasy setting framework with several inexpensive support documents available via PDF. It reminds me a lot of the original Greyhawk folio.

I looked at that one on TLG's website and had the same "feeling." It definitely interests me more than The Haunted Highlands setting.

Shades of Mist also looks really interesting.

What I am MOST excited about should be out in the next 90 days:

Troll Lord Games

They put up a You Tube video that gives more info that details why I am excited about it.

Interesting. It certainly seems worht a look; although I have historically not been delighted by RPG mass combat simulations. It's tricky to blend characters of great power in with conscripts and still have the battle exciting.

Yeah, the biggest problem is always the wizard. When they can cut loose with those 20 foot radius fireballs, killing 30+ of the "common soldiers" with each spell, I always wonder why the heck they aren't turning and running for their lives rather than becoming numerous new piles of burnt corpses, or ash.

Or when and Archmage comes out on the battlefield, and unleashes a Meteor Swarm! Then imagine a battle with several such Archmages, why have armies?

I really enjoy Engineering Dungeons. It is a very handy dungeon generator that was made with a lot of thought. I recommend it to any FRPG fan as it's practically system neutral.

I also like the Haunted Highlands stuff, but it is certainly a more free-form, piecemeal world than the Airde stuff (by the way, if you like Airde, try to get a hold of the old Codex of Erde d20 book).
